Client Success Story - Humboldt State University
Humboldt State University is nestled between the blue-green waters of the Pacific Ocean and the towering redwood forests of northern California. Founded in 1913 as a school to train teachers, Humboldt is consistently cited among the top 10% of regional colleges and universities in the United States and was one of the first campuses of what would become the twenty-three-campus California State University system.
Humboldt & Odyssey HMS Judicial
Like most schools, Humboldt deals with incidents and student judicial records on a regular basis. Over the past several years, Residence Life has used an internal FileMaker Pro database to track housing judicial records. Over time there has been difficulty updating and making modifications to the database to meet the campus's current needs. At the same time, the Campus Judicial Coordinator has been using a separate Access database to track campus-wide nonhousing judicial records.
Beginning in fall 2002 the university implemented an alcohol/drug intervention plan that combined its housing and university intervention strategies. However, staff found extreme difficulty in tracking students through the various levels of interventions, especially those students who were in communication with both the Housing Office and the Campus Judicial Coordinator.
The main goal of using Odyssey HMS™ Judicial is to improve the university's ability to coordinate, track, and communicate information regarding student judicial records. Odyssey HMS Judicial provides a shared database so the housing office can see other nonhousing incidents for a student and vice versa. According to Issac Carter, Associate Director of Housing, "Odyssey HMS Judicial provides a centralized system of information storage and management." Humboldt installed Odyssey HMS Judicial on May 12, 2003.
Some of the functionality provided by the module includes the following:
- Create and track all events associated with the judicial process, including due dates for the next event in the process.
- Create custom judicial documents using Microsoft® Word and generate documents at any point throughout the judicial process.
- Define incident types to include a reference to "Clery Act Incident Type" to perform Clery Act Reporting at the touch of a button.
